John O'Neill |
Born |
May 1822 |
Derryborough, Garvaghullion, Longfield East, Omagh, Tyrone, Ireland |
- On the death record of Mary Ann Victoria (Mollie) O'Neill Cleary there was a town reference to 'Gara (M or V) ahulleary'. After study, debate and consultation with other family members (Particularly cousin Joan) we've decided upon the location of Garvaghullion, Longfield East, Tyrone, Ireland. This decision was also based on Griffith's Valuation of the area at the time, that supports 5 male members of the O'Kane family and James O'Neill, likely the father of John and Bridget O'Neill and their other siblings.

- Obituary: John O'Neill, The Chicago Citizen, 2 Apr 1887
John O'Neill, who had been a resident of Chicago since 1847, died last Sunday morning. He was a native of Ireland and left that country in his early youth. He was connected with James Carney's brewery, one of the first established here at Nos. 61 and 63 South Water St., and on the destruction of that establishment, he erected the old brewery, the ruins of which can be see on the beach opposite 39th St. Six children survive him. One is the wife of Mr. John Cudahy, one of the most prominent members of the Chicago Chamber of Commerce, and another daughter, Mrs. Dr. C. P. Caldwell, also resides in Chicago. Funeral occurred from St. James Church to Calvary.
